Welcome to Encapsulated.org
What is this site?
This is the personal website of Tom Van Herreweghe. Its purpose is to provide an outlet for all my ideas, creations and projects. The goal is to create an online showcase of my skills. You can find a list of all these creations on the "projects" page. The "blogs" section will cover some personal issues. I'll post all my ups & downs related to my creations, or web development in general. I will also try to keep a photo blog, because I think that taking photo's is a nice hobby. With this photo blog, I would like to encourage myself to take more photo's.
Sometimes, I will post a dissection of an idea or project. I will then give an in-depth explanation of the source code, and comment certain aspects.
Slowly but gradually, this website will be extended with new functionality. I have some ideas in my head, but currently lack the time to implement them.
Who am I?
As said before, my name is Tom, and I work as an "ICT expert" at an institution of the Belgian government. My job is to create web applications for either the intranet website, or the public website. I'm most interested in webscripting. Server side as well as client side. I have knowledge of the following languages:
- PHP (+++)
- ASP (+)
- Javascript (+++)
- HTML (+++)
- XML (++)
- CSS(2) (++)
- SQL (++)
Aside from these languages, I am also very interested in a number of other subjects, related to these previous languages:
- Smarty templating system
- PEAR DB (database abstraction)
- AJAX (XMLHTTPrequest)
- Prototype library
- Script.aculo.us library
Besides that, I have some hobbies too. Weekly I play a game of footy in the local town competition. I also enjoy watching a film at the theatre, going to concerts, listening to Muse-ic, playing Hattrick, going out with friends, and especially spending time with my wonderful girlfriend.
